Famous Footballers
Football is one of the most popular sports in the world and as such many of the players are world famous. From past footballers such as George Best, Jack Charlton and Alan Hanson through to modern day icons like David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Christiano Ronaldo; football remains a hugely popular sport.
David Beckham is arguably the world’s most famous footballer followed closely by the likes of Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and after the latest World Cup; David Villa is also a household name. Players such as Ronaldinho and Giggs are also known around the world and club-loyal players like Steven Gerrard, John Terry, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Frank Lampard are well recognised faces of the game.
Goal keepers often don’t get enough recognition for their game but some names will live through time as being the best. Peter Shilton along with David Seaman are two famous names to have been in the England goal and Buffon, Barthez, Southall, Schmiechel and Cech are also well known.
Footballers are not just famous for the efforts on the pitch as the game offers such high wages; these players are often seen parading around in fancy sports cars while living in mansions complete with at least two luxury holiday homes.
The money these footballers earn on top of the fame that comes with being a well known footballer means that many are recognised as quickly as an A list Hollywood actor.
